HISTORY OF NORTHPORT YOGA CENTER
Because of her love of yoga and the myriad benefits she achieved from the practice, founder Marianne Mitsinikos had a desire to have yoga conveniently available to as many people as possible, envisioning a “downtown, Main Street, store front, walk-in Yoga Center”.
After teaching Yoga privately for sixteen years, through the Continuing Education programs at three local schools, an accredited course for school district staff, a local hospital and college, and a holistic learning center, she finally opened the Northport Yoga Center in 1996, the realization of a long held dream.
For several years she managed the center and taught all the classes. As the student body continued to grow, Marianne brought in other highly qualified teachers to share their knowledge of Yoga, offering a variety of classes in different styles and traditions. The Yoga Center continued to prosper and grow under her guidance and the support of a very competent teaching staff.
Upon her retirement in 2008, Marianne turned ownership of the center over to Guzin Sunaz, who lovingly took on the responsibility of continuing to serve the community through the offering of Yoga.
Guzin has refurbished, up-dated and beautified the Yoga Center with a fresh, new energy, offering classes in Yoga for adults and children, specialized classes targeting health issues, meditation, energy healing modalities, and massage.
The community is blessed to have this capable, compassionate teacher who continues to offer the ancient science and philosophy of Yoga.
