This class targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, as well as the joints of the spine, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles. With its slow, passive, meditative approach, this cooling practice not only promotes flexibility, it also replenishes synovial fluid surrounding the joints, increases range of motion, and creates space both within the body and the mind, preparing it for meditation. Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles.
